Oakland Edition Global Action's 5th Annual New Year's Day Global Clean-up

This is the Oakland edition of Global Action’s 5th Annual New Year’s Day Global Clean-up, in which people around the world clean up their communities on the same day. If you are in the Bay, join us on January 1st at 2:00 pm at Lake Merritt’s Amphitheater. We will meet, and then go around the Lake to pick up trash. There will be swag giveaways as well.

For anyone who can’t be here but would like to organize a clean up, download the CleanSwell app both for iOS and Android and then when you start your cleanup, use the Group Name “RCGA NYD25”. Come through and let’s kick off 2025 on that note!

Celebrating 15 Years in Community… We Had A Grand Time!

15th Anniversary Gala Thank You

We are so grateful that you were with us on Saturday for our 15th Anniversary Gala! We had such a fun time connecting, sharing, and celebrating in community.

BIG thanks to Ty Stephens, Branice McKenzie, Takiyah Franklin and our Gala Musicians under the capable and creative direction of Valerie Joi Fiddmont. We are also grateful for Dr. Micia Mosley for emceeing and to our DJ Danyelle Jennings!

Thank you to Calabash for their catering, The Community Hub for hosting us, and Black Cultural Zone for allowing us access to their shop off hours.

The gala would not have been possible without the loving leadership of our co-chairs Earnestine Calvin & Valda Earl-Southall and we are deeply grateful for the team of volunteers who contributed their time and talent.

To learn more about upcoming Heart & Soul events, check our calendar.

Heart & Soul loves to produce spiritually uplifting events.

We often gather on 5th Sundays to celebrate more informally as a community. We commemorate special occasions, host mini-concerts and film screenings, and connect with other spiritual communities and leaders. You never know what we’ll be up to!

We’ve produced the following events over the last few years:

  • Into the Blue, a concert with Tammy Lynne Hall
  • Harriet Tubman film screening
  • Michael Eric Dyson and Susan Taylor community discussion
  • Aretha Franklin Tribute concert
